Hansi Flick Gives Deco a List of Six Players He Wants Out of Barcelona
Just hours after securing the LaLiga EA Sports title—along with the Spanish Super Cup and Copa del Rey—Hansi Flick has shifted focus to preparing for the next season. Despite a strong overall campaign, the Champions League semifinal exit was a painful blow. Now, the Barcelona manager is determined to build on the team’s domestic success and translate it into European dominance.
Flick is targeting new signings to elevate the squad’s quality, but he’s also made it clear that several current players have no future at the club. Sporting director Deco has been handed a list of six names who are now considered expendable—among them, Iñaki Peña and Héctor Fort.
Both players have fallen out of favor, especially Peña, who initially replaced Ter Stegen during his injury but later lost his spot to Szczęsny. Since then, his relationship with Flick has reportedly deteriorated. Youngsters Pablo Torre and Pau Víctor are also set to leave, despite occasional flashes of promise when called upon.
Another on the chopping block is Ansu Fati. Once a rising star, Fati has struggled this season and failed to justify his high salary. Flick appears to have lost faith in the 22-year-old forward, while club president Joan Laporta is eager to offload his hefty €12 million annual wage.
Finally, Ronald Araújo is expected to be the club’s major sale this summer. Barcelona hopes to fetch around €60 million for the Uruguayan defender. Flick has signed off on the exits of all six players, giving Deco and Laporta the green light to move forward with their departures.
