While most of the attention at Liverpool is on incoming transfers, there’s been a key update regarding the coaching staff.
It’s now official—Claudio Taffarel, Liverpool’s goalkeeping coach, will be part of Carlo Ancelotti’s staff when he takes charge of the Brazil national team later this year.
Ancelotti, set to leave Real Madrid after a successful stint, will begin his Brazil tenure on May 26, preparing for World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador (June 5) and Paraguay (June 10).
Taffarel, however, won’t be stepping away from Liverpool. He’ll continue juggling his current duties, remaining both at Anfield and with the Brazilian national team. The 1994 World Cup winner has held his role with Brazil since 2014 and has worked under several managers including Dunga, Tite, and Fernando Diniz.
Liverpool fans can breathe a sigh of relief—Taffarel, who joined the Reds in 2021 and has been instrumental in shaping the club’s goalkeeping standards, will still be working closely with Alisson Becker. Jurgen Klopp originally brought him in to help develop a unique goalkeeping philosophy, and new manager Arne Slot appears to share the same appreciation for Taffarel’s work, choosing to retain him.
Ancelotti himself reportedly pushed for Taffarel’s continued involvement with Brazil, valuing his insight and close relationships with the team’s goalkeepers.
Ultimately, this is a win-win situation. Both Liverpool and Brazil will continue to benefit from Taffarel’s wealth of experience—ensuring continuity and excellence, especially for Alisson, who remains under his expert guidance at both club and international level
