With Liverpool actively pursuing Jeremie Frimpong, the club appears eager to start planning early for the summer transfer window, and another player is now emerging as a target.
According to Jack Gaughan from the Daily Mail: “Adam Wharton could command a fee around £60 million, with Real Madrid scouts recently conducting evaluations. Liverpool are closely watching the situation.”
The Crystal Palace midfielder has been gaining a lot of positive attention lately. He first caught widespread notice when called up to England’s Euros squad by Gareth Southgate, but his impressive performances date back to his time at Blackburn Rovers.
His former manager, Jon Dahl Tomasson, praised the young player as having “a big future,” describing him as a “Champions League level” talent in terms of his ball skills.
Having played alongside Tyler Morton at Ewood Park, the 21-year-old is certainly on Liverpool’s radar.
Wharton, originally from Blackburn, was once considered a possible replacement for Martin Zubimendi in a previous transfer window, so it makes sense he’s still being considered now.
Ryan Gravenberch has performed well since then, but given the heavy workload he’s had this season, adding a fresh midfielder like Wharton could benefit Liverpool.
Whether Liverpool will compete with Real Madrid and meet a £60 million valuation remains to be seen.
