Liverpool Starts Talks Over £52m Striker Praised by Ibrahima Konate

Liverpool have begun discussions to sign a striker valued at £52 million, who Ibrahima Konate once described as the best player in his league.

Under the leadership of Arne Slot and Richard Hughes, the club is eager to strengthen their squad during the summer transfer window.

Graeme Bailey, chief correspondent for TBR Football, confirmed that Liverpool’s summer plans include signing a new striker. He mentioned, “The Reds are looking to bring in a striker as well as possibly a creative player, such as a left winger or an attacking midfielder. Securing a new No. 9 is a top priority.”

French sources report that Liverpool have entered negotiations to sign Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku. According to Footmercato, Nkunku has been added to Liverpool’s shortlist, and talks are underway regarding a potential transfer.

Liverpool values versatile attackers, which is why Nkunku is a prime target. However, Newcastle United and Bayern Munich are also interested and have been informed about the transfer conditions.

Konate, who is both a French international teammate and former RB Leipzig colleague of Nkunku, praised him in 2022, saying, “There’s no need to explain Nkunku; he was the best player in the Bundesliga that season. He wins frequently and has outstanding technical ability. I’m close to him and others in the national team like Matteo Guendouzi, Moussa Diaby, and Boubacar Kamara.”

Wesley Fofana also commented on Nkunku’s talent, saying, “I rarely see such exceptional finishing skills in front of goal.”

Nkunku had a standout career at RB Leipzig, scoring 70 goals and providing 54 assists in 172 matches. His performances earned him the Bundesliga Player of the Season award for 2021/22.

Konate and Nkunku have played together 35 times for club and country, and there is a chance they could reunite at Liverpool in the future
