Liverpool have been encouraged to make every effort to sign Marc Cucurella from Chelsea as they look to strengthen their left-back position this summer.
Former Liverpool defender Glen Johnson believes Cucurella would be the perfect successor to Andy Robertson, who has been a mainstay at Anfield for eight years.
Johnson expressed skepticism about Liverpool’s current target, Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth.
“If I were Liverpool, I’d focus all my efforts on signing Marc Cucurella — he’d be my top choice to replace Robertson,” Johnson said.
He highlighted Cucurella’s strong defensive abilities, skill with the ball, and attacking contributions as key reasons for his recommendation.
Since joining Chelsea from Brighton in 2022, the 26-year-old has become a vital player for the club, making 45 appearances this season and playing a starring role in Spain’s European Championship win last summer.
While acknowledging that Cucurella’s transfer fee might be high, Johnson believes he’s worth the investment.
“He’s being largely ignored by Liverpool in their hunt for a left-back, but I doubt Chelsea would be willing to sell him easily,” Johnson added.
