Liverpool may be closing in on a major signing, with fresh details emerging about a secretive meeting related to one of Europe’s top young prospects.
German journalist Christian Falk, writing via The Daily Briefing on Substack, revealed that the family of Florian Wirtz — Bayer Leverkusen’s star playmaker — recently flew to England for discussions, making stops in Blackpool and Manchester. It’s believed that Liverpool met with them during this visit.
The Wirtz family is said to have flown out at 10am aboard a private Embraer Legacy 550 jet and returned quietly via a lesser-known airstrip on the Dutch-German border — movements that have only recently come to light.
While Manchester City have already made their interest known, Liverpool are reportedly now in pole position to sign the 21-year-old. Journalist Paul Joyce has hinted that the Reds are ready to present a strong case to convince Wirtz to join them at Anfield.
Wirtz, who is contracted with Leverkusen until 2027, is drawing attention from top clubs across Europe, including Bayern Munich, who remain optimistic about eventually landing him — whether this summer or by 2026.
However, Liverpool’s efforts seem to be accelerating. David Ornstein has also reported a “growing confidence” within the club that a deal could be struck.
Though Wirtz has previously been linked with a move to the Premier League, this is the clearest sign yet that Liverpool are actively working to secure his signature.
