Report: Liverpool in Talks With ‘Unstoppable’ Striker in Potentially Game-Changing Move

Liverpool’s new sporting director, Richard Hughes, appears determined to deliver an unforgettable transfer window for fans this summer, based on several recent reports.
David Ornstein revealed today that the Premier League champions are making progress in negotiations for Jeremie Frimpong, with growing confidence of completing the deal.
At the same time, Christian Falk reported that Liverpool officials also recently met with Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz, though Bayern Munich currently lead the race for his signature.
Liverpool Enter the Race for Viktor Gyokeres
According to a Thursday report by CaughtOffside, Liverpool have also been involved in discussions surrounding Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres, who is also on Manchester United’s radar.
Despite Liverpool’s interest, Arsenal seem to be leading the pursuit. The Gunners are reportedly in advanced talks with the Swedish striker, offering him a five-year deal worth around £9 million annually.
Gyokeres Could Transform Liverpool’s Attack
If Liverpool manage to outbid both Arsenal and United to sign Gyokeres, it would be a massive statement of intent—possibly tipping the balance in the Premier League title race in their favor.
Gyokeres has had an extraordinary season, scoring 52 goals in 50 games, including six in the Champions League. His former Coventry teammate, Jake Bidwell, once called him an “unstoppable” forward who has completely evolved since his early loan days in 2021.
Switching from Darwin Núñez (40 goals in 141 appearances) to the prolific Gyokeres would be a major upgrade. Imagine a front three of Gyokeres, Mo Salah, and either Cody Gakpo or Luis Díaz.
Although Arsenal currently appear to be in the driving seat, Hughes should remain ready in case the opportunity arises to bring the striker to Anfield.
