According to a report from Foot Mercato, Liverpool have initiated discussions to sign Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.
Nkunku, 27, joined Chelsea in 2023 but has struggled to make a significant impact and is now reportedly open to leaving Stamford Bridge.
Liverpool are attracted to the Frenchman’s adaptability and goal-scoring talent—qualities that could be valuable under new manager Arne Slot, especially after their recent Premier League title win. The club is planning a busy transfer window to reinforce several areas of the squad.
Liverpool Attack Could See Big Changes
Reinforcements in the attacking department are a priority for the Reds, particularly with uncertainty surrounding the futures of Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota.
Nkunku, a former RB Leipzig standout, has been hampered by injuries, scoring just 17 goals in 56 matches for Chelsea. Nonetheless, Liverpool are interested in his potential. Newcastle United and Bayern Munich are also reportedly monitoring him. Bayern, who tried to sign Nkunku in January, may renew their interest, especially with Thomas Muller’s expected departure.
Three New Signings in Sight for Liverpool
Nkunku’s ability to play across the front line makes him an appealing target. He is capable of operating as both a central striker and an attacking midfielder.
Besides Nkunku, Liverpool are also aiming to bolster their defense. They’ve identified Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez as a primary left-back target to challenge Andy Robertson and eventually succeed him.
Additionally, the club is eyeing Bayer Leverkusen’s right wing-back Jeremie Frimpong, anticipating a possible transition away from Trent Alexander-Arnold in that position
