Liverpool Leading the Chase for Florian Wirtz Despite Bayern Interest

Liverpool Pull Ahead in Pursuit of Leverkusen Star

Florian Wirtz, the standout talent from Bayer Leverkusen, is drawing widespread attention from top clubs across Europe, including Liverpool, Manchester City, and Bayern Munich.

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder has enjoyed a stellar season, contributing 16 goals and 15 assists in 44 matches. His performances have even led Pep Guardiola to reportedly make a direct appeal to bring him to Manchester City.

Why Liverpool May Have the Advantage

Although Bayern Munich are serious contenders, Liverpool are currently seen as the frontrunners. According to Anfield Watch, Bayern might be forced to sell players like Kingsley Coman or Sacha Boey to meet Wirtz’s €150 million valuation. In contrast, Liverpool are in a stronger financial position and wouldn’t need to offload players to fund the move.

Bundesliga expert Ronan Murphy put it succinctly: “Wirtz has many reasons to choose Bayern—but €150 million reasons not to. Liverpool are more likely to pay the full amount upfront, which gives them the edge.”

Slot’s Vision for Midfield Reinvention

Under new manager Arne Slot, Liverpool have spent cautiously—Federico Chiesa was the only major signing last summer—yet the team continues to perform well. Bringing in Wirtz would add much-needed creativity and goal-scoring from midfield, lessen the reliance on Mohamed Salah, and potentially push the squad to even greater heights
