Why Liverpool May Beat Bayern Munich to Florian Wirtz Signing

Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz has attracted significant interest from top clubs including Liverpool, Manchester City, and Bayern Munich following another impressive season.

The 22-year-old German international has delivered 16 goals and 15 assists across 44 matches for Leverkusen in all competitions. His outstanding form has reportedly caught the attention of Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, who is believed to have reached out to the player in hopes of securing a move to the Premier League.

Liverpool in Stronger Position Than Bayern
Although Bayern Munich are working hard to land the attacking midfielder, Liverpool appear to have a financial edge. According to Anfield Watch, Bayern would need to offload several players to meet Wirtz’s estimated €150 million valuation.

In contrast, Liverpool are in a healthier financial position and could afford to bring in Wirtz without needing to sell current squad members. Bundesliga analyst Ronan Murphy highlighted this to Anfield Watch, stating:

“Bayern would need to raise funds by selling players like Kingsley Coman or Sacha Boey, who might not fetch the desired amounts. On the other hand, Liverpool likely wouldn’t need to sell anyone, which gives them an advantage.”

Wirtz Could Be Key for Arne Slot
Under new manager Arne Slot, Liverpool have continued their success while being prudent in the transfer market. Last summer’s only major signing, Federico Chiesa, came at a discount price.

Wirtz would bring creativity, goals, and a unique spark to Liverpool’s midfield — traits the club lacks outside of Mohamed Salah. His arrival could be transformative for Slot’s squad in their pursuit of further success
