Jurgen Klopp, the iconic former Liverpool manager, is being linked with a surprising return to football management—less than a year after stepping down from his role at Anfield.
Klopp, who spent nearly a decade in charge of Liverpool, left at the end of last season citing exhaustion and a need for rest. He later took on a position with Red Bull as their Global Head of Football, overseeing the sporting direction across their network of clubs.
While speculation previously suggested that Klopp would only consider managing again if offered the German national team job, new reports claim he has had a change of heart.
According to Italy’s La Stampa, Klopp is set to become the new manager of Serie A side AS Roma next season. The report states that Roma view Klopp as the ideal replacement for Claudio Ranieri, who is expected to return to retirement after rejoining the club in November.
Apparently, Klopp had initially committed to another club, but when that arrangement fell through, he quickly reached an agreement with Roma. Eager to hit the ground running, Klopp has already outlined his expectations for the summer transfer window—demanding at least six new signings.
Roma currently sit fifth in the Serie A standings, just one point behind fourth-placed Juventus, who hold the final Champions League qualification spot. With one game remaining, Roma could qualify for Europe’s top competition if they beat Torino and Juventus drop points against relegation-threatened Venezia.
