More than a year after Jurgen Klopp stepped away from his role as Liverpool’s manager, speculation has emerged suggesting he might soon return to the sidelines.
Currently serving as Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer, the 57-year-old had made it clear that his exit from Anfield marked the end of his coaching journey. However, recent reports from Italy implied he might be reconsidering.
According to La Stampa, Klopp was rumored to have agreed to take over at AS Roma, following Claudio Ranieri’s retirement. These claims quickly drew a response from Klopp’s agent.
Marc Kosicke, speaking to Arabian publication WinWin, dismissed the Roma rumors outright, calling them unfounded and putting an end to the recent buzz about Klopp’s return to management.
Klopp had also been linked to the Real Madrid job as a possible successor to Carlo Ancelotti, but it’s now confirmed that Xabi Alonso will take that position after leaving Bayer Leverkusen.
A Roma Comeback Seems Highly Unlikely for Klopp
Kosicke’s quick denial of the Roma links comes as little surprise.
Klopp has repeatedly stressed that his time at Liverpool was his final chapter in management, stepping down due to burnout. Given how vocal he has been about the mental and physical strain of coaching, a return just a year later feels unlikely.
Even if Klopp were to return to the dugout, Roma appears to be an unlikely choice. The club is associated with painful memories for Klopp, especially following the 2018 Champions League semi-final when Liverpool supporter Sean Cox was brutally attacked by Roma fans—an incident that left a deep impact on the German manager. Klopp later formed a strong connection with Cox during visits to Anfield.
