Liverpool has already met with Wirtz’s family in England, with his relatives playing a key role in his decision-making process. The Reds are reportedly willing to break their transfer record—currently the £85 million paid for Darwin Núñez in 2022—if Wirtz signals he’s interested in moving to the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich remains confident in their ability to secure Wirtz, despite growing interest from Liverpool. Reports in Germany suggested that Liverpool’s push is being spearheaded by Michael Edwards, CEO of Football for Fenway Sports Group (FSG), and that he had flown to Boston for emergency talks to secure funding.
However, The Daily Mail’s Lewis Steele and Dominic King refuted these claims. They reported that no such meeting between Edwards and FSG occurred, clarifying that Edwards didn’t need to travel to Boston and would typically communicate with FSG remotely. They also stressed that it’s actually Sporting Director Richard Hughes—not Edwards—who is in charge of Liverpool’s summer transfer activities.
The Mail speculated that German media reports might have originated from Bayern’s camp, possibly to exaggerate Liverpool’s interest and amplify the perceived impact if Bayern signs Wirtz—or because Bayern genuinely sees Liverpool as a threat.
Ultimately, Wirtz remains undecided. He’s currently on holiday, weighing the choice between staying in the Bundesliga with a controversial move to Bayern or challenging himself in the Premier League. Liverpool intends to make a strong attempt to sign him, but for now, no final decision has been made
