Bruno Fernandes has intensified speculation around a potential transfer for Viktor Gyokeres by hinting at a move via social media, coinciding with reports that Manchester United are set to challenge Arsenal for the Sporting CP star.
With Manchester United seeking attacking reinforcements due to inconsistent performances from Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, the club has turned its attention to Gyokeres — who has been in outstanding form, scoring 96 goals over two seasons and helping Sporting secure back-to-back Portuguese league titles.
Arsenal are reportedly leading the race, having agreed on a £58.9 million deal with Sporting, according to talkSPORT. However, United are not backing down and may still launch a serious bid for the Swedish forward.
Adding intrigue, Fernandes — a former Sporting player and current United captain — liked Gyokeres’ Instagram post celebrating the team’s recent title win. The striker captioned the post: “First time was so nice we had to do it twice,” highlighting their consecutive championships.
Fernandes, who also recently began following Gyokeres on Instagram, has seemingly endorsed the striker, potentially hinting at interest in seeing him join the squad at Old Trafford.
While Arsenal currently seem to have the upper hand, Fernandes’ public show of admiration suggests United are still very much in the running. As the summer transfer window approaches, the pursuit of Gyokeres promises to be one of the season’s most compelling storylines
