Ruben Amorim has reportedly told Alejandro Garnacho to leave Manchester United, despite announcing to the team that he plans to stay on as manager next season. This decision comes after United’s 1-0 loss to Tottenham in the Europa League final, marking a disappointing end to a poor season where they also sit 16th in the Premier League.
Amorim, who succeeded Erik ten Hag in November, informed the squad of his intentions during a meeting at the club’s Carrington training ground. It was during this meeting that Garnacho was allegedly told he should find a new club.
Garnacho expressed his frustration to the Argentine media, noting that he had played in every round of the European campaign until the final, where he only featured for 20 minutes. His brother also criticized the decision, suggesting Garnacho was unfairly sidelined.
Amorim defended his choice, pointing out Garnacho’s missed opportunity in the semi-final. Despite playing more games than any other United player this season and scoring 11 goals, Garnacho may be on the way out. United, struggling financially, are reportedly considering selling top assets like Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.
Bruno Fernandes has also hinted at a possible departure, although the club is reluctant to lose their captain. Amorim stated that he would address players’ futures after the final game, as the club prepares for a summer rebuild with or without Champions League football.
