As Liverpool revel in their latest Premier League triumph, a surprising transfer twist has emerged involving Bayern Munich and one of the Reds’ standout players.
On Monday, jubilant fans flooded the streets of Liverpool to celebrate the club’s historic 20th league title, matching Manchester United’s all-time record. The team paraded through the city with the Premier League trophy during a triumphant bus tour.
Amid the festivities, reports from Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg indicate that Bayern Munich are eyeing a bold move for Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo. The Bundesliga giants are reportedly in the market for a marquee left winger, with Gakpo now on their shortlist. Bayern’s sporting director, Max Eberl, is believed to be a keen admirer and has reportedly initiated early discussions regarding a potential transfer.
Despite Gakpo being under contract with Liverpool until 2028, the club may entertain offers that align with their valuation, especially with several attacking players possibly on the market this summer. In addition to Gakpo, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota, and Harvey Elliott could also be considered for transfer to make room for new signings.
Currently, Gakpo is said to be Bayern’s third-choice target, behind Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma and AC Milan’s Rafael Leão. Since joining Liverpool from PSV Eindhoven in December 2022, Gakpo has made 128 appearances, netting 41 goals and assisting 17.
In the meantime, Liverpool are preparing for an active summer transfer window. The club is reportedly close to signing Bayer Leverkusen duo Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz, while a move for Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez is also nearing completion
