47 Injured in Liverpool Trophy Parade Incident
Emergency services have confirmed 47 people were injured during an incident at Liverpool’s Premier League trophy parade.
The celebration, featuring an open-top bus through Liverpool city centre, turned tragic around 6 p.m. when a vehicle struck a crowd of pedestrians on Water Street.
Videos shared on social media captured the moment and the swift response by police, who arrested the driver—a 53-year-old white British man from Liverpool.
Initially, reports suggested numerous injuries. Later, David Kitchen of the North West Ambulance Service confirmed during a press briefing that four children were among the victims. He stated:
“We treated 20 individuals for minor injuries at the scene. Another 27 were transported to hospital, with two—including a child—suffering serious injuries.”
A paramedic on a bicycle was also hit but was not hurt.
Nick Searle, Chief Fire Officer of Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, revealed that three adults and a child were trapped beneath the vehicle. All were rescued and treated on-site.
Police Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims stated that the incident is not currently being treated as terrorism, and the motives behind the driver’s actions remain unknown.
Eyewitness Chelsea Yuen recalled the chaos:
“It was packed. Suddenly, we heard honking and screaming. A black people carrier came right at us. My friend and I barely managed to pull her daughter out of the way.”
Another witness, Harry Rashid, described:
“A grey people carrier swerved from the right and crashed into people beside us. It was speeding south on Water Street.”
