Oriol Romeu Set to Return to Barcelona After Girona Loan

Girona FC has officially announced that Oriol Romeu will depart the club at the end of his loan from FC Barcelona. The 33-year-old midfielder, who spent the 2024–25 season at Girona, is now expected to rejoin his parent club.

Romeu re-signed with Barcelona in the summer of 2023 to help replace Sergio Busquets. However, his impact was limited due to restricted minutes and a knee injury, resulting in 28 La Liga appearances, including only 17 starts.

In August 2024, Romeu returned to Girona—where he had previously played—on a season-long loan. Throughout this second stint, he made 31 appearances, offering veteran leadership in midfield. Despite this contribution, Girona opted not to make the move permanent.

With his return to Barcelona confirmed, Romeu’s future at the club remains unclear. As the competition for midfield roles intensifies, it’s uncertain what role, if any, he will play in the team’s plans going forward.
