Chelsea Leapfrogs Liverpool in Race for Florian Wirtz Alternative Xavi Simons

Xavi Simons, who tallied 11 goals and 8 assists in the 2024–25 Bundesliga season, has caught the eye of several top European clubs.

Liverpool’s aggressive pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz could come at a cost, potentially causing them to miss out on another key transfer target.

Following their Premier League title win, the Reds are aiming to strengthen their creative core, especially after Trent Alexander-Arnold’s exit. New manager Arne Slot is focused on injecting flair and vision into the squad.

The Merseyside club is currently deep in negotiations to land Wirtz, a move expected to break their transfer record. But with the bulk of their attention on finalizing that marquee signing, they risk being edged out in the chase for RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons.

According to Bild ,Chelsea have now moved ahead of Liverpool in the competition to sign the Dutch attacker.

Although Liverpool showed early interest in Simons, their focus has pivoted to sealing the £126 million deal for Wirtz. This shift in priorities has allowed Chelsea to step in and potentially secure Simons’ signature.

This development could disrupt Liverpool’s summer strategy.

Simons’ creativity and attacking spark make him a top target for Chelsea, whose manager Enzo Maresca is building a squad capable of competing in the Champions League. The London club is also reportedly monitoring Real Madrid’s Rodrygo, who may be open to a move away from the Spanish capital.
