Manchester City has been nearly unstoppable over the past decade, dominating the Premier League to the point where few doubt their place among the best ever in English football. However, when looking at all-time Premier League success, they still lag behind the current leaders in total points.
Transfermarkt compiled a comprehensive table listing all 51 clubs that have participated in the Premier League since its inception. Despite Manchester City’s recent rise, they have a considerable gap to close before reaching the top of this historic ranking.
Premier League All-Time Table: Positions 51-41
Luton Town sits at the bottom with just 26 points from their single Premier League season. The Hatters struggled to avoid relegation and ended six points short of safety in the 2023/24 season. Given back-to-back relegations, it might be a while before they return to top-flight football. Luton trails Swindon Town, who also had only one top-tier season but played four additional games in 1993/94.
Among the bottom 11 clubs, only Brentford still competes in the Premier League. Under Thomas Frank’s management, they reached 41st place after finishing 10th in 2024/25 and are expected to break into the top 40 next season.
Premier League All-Time Table: Positions 40-31
Burnley hopes to climb higher in the 2024/25 season. Sheffield United’s failure to secure promotion means they will likely drop a spot. Ipswich Town returned to the Premier League for the first time since 2002 after an outstanding 2023/24 Championship season, currently sitting ahead of Sheffield United by 21 points but still behind Derby County, who hold 274 points.
Despite holding the record for the worst Premier League season, Derby remains 38th overall. Birmingham City is steadily climbing, having last played in the Premier League 14 years ago, and could soon return to the top division.
Premier League All-Time Table: Positions 30-21
Brighton and Wolves have made it into the top 30. Wolves have established themselves as a consistent mid-table Premier League side, ranking 21st by 2024/25. If historical Division One records were included, Wolves would rank as high as 12th due to their 1950s successes.
Wimbledon, despite ceasing to exist in 2004, remains 26th with 374 points, highlighted by a sixth-place finish in 1993/94. Brighton, under Fabian Hurzeler, is rapidly climbing this list after scoring 61 points last season.
Premier League All-Time Table: Positions 20-11
Many iconic Premier League clubs fill the top 20. West Brom is only 55 points ahead of Wolves and risks dropping unless they gain promotion soon. League One side Bolton Wanderers, absent from the top flight since 2011/12, sits 19th and is the first club to exceed 500 points.
Blackburn holds 12th place, with 89 points coming from their 1994/95 title-winning season. They accumulated 305 points during the early Premier League years but haven’t been in the top flight since 2012.
Crystal Palace, Fulham, and Leicester City aim to increase their points in the upcoming 2025/26 season. Southampton, despite fielding one of the worst Premier League teams in 2024/25, will need more time in the lower leagues before adding to their total.
Premier League All-Time Table: Positions 10-1
The top 10 features well-established Premier League teams that have consistently played in England’s top division since 1992. All have played over 1,000 matches, with the top five having played the maximum possible.
West Ham, Aston Villa, and Newcastle, who have fluctuated between divisions in the past, occupy spots 10th to 8th but have amassed significant points from long Premier League tenures. Villa and Newcastle’s current upward trends suggest their points totals will grow quickly.
Everton, never relegated from the Premier League, trails Manchester City despite playing nearly 200 more matches. City, having suffered relegations in 1995/96 and 2000/01, transformed after their takeover and, if their dominance continues, will soon enter the top five
