Liverpool are close to completing the signings of Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, and Florian Wirtz ahead of the summer transfer window. However, their recruitment may not end there, as the club continues to explore options to strengthen their attack. One player consistently linked with a move to Anfield is Anthony Gordon. Despite Newcastle United’s qualification for the Champions League, Gordon — who is also on Arsenal’s radar — could still be on the move, and Liverpool are considered strong contenders if he becomes available.
The potential signing of Wirtz doesn’t rule out a move for Gordon. Former scout Mick Brown has emphasized that Gordon remains a viable target for the Reds.
“Anthony Gordon has been on Liverpool’s radar for quite some time,” Brown told Football Insider. “He’s a local lad, has Everton ties, and the club knows him very well.”
Negotiations for Wirtz appear to be progressing positively, but Liverpool’s interest in Gordon remains. With the possibility of players like Luis Díaz, Cody Gakpo, or Darwin Núñez departing this summer, the club may need fresh attacking reinforcements. Gordon could fill that gap, particularly given that Arne Slot is yet to be fully convinced by the current forward options.
If Liverpool’s existing attackers stay put, the club is unlikely to pursue both Gordon and Wirtz. However, any high-profile departures could pave the way for Gordon’s arrival.
The major hurdle remains Newcastle’s position. They value Gordon highly and are under no financial pressure to sell. Still, optimism is growing that Gordon could be wearing a Liverpool shirt next season
