“My agent met the club last week”: Liverpool star addresses future amid false rumours

Liverpool centre-back Ibrahima Konaté has spoken out about his contract situation and addressed speculation regarding his future at the club.

With his current deal set to expire next summer, the 25-year-old has received a new contract offer from Liverpool. While talks are ongoing, no agreement has been reached yet. Konaté confirmed that his agent recently held discussions with the club and responded with a counterproposal.

He also dismissed recent online speculation as entirely untrue, stating he was never close to finalising a new contract with the club, despite what some reports suggested.

There were rumours that Konaté might let his contract run out and leave on a free transfer, but he denied those claims as well.

Konaté on the speculation:

Speaking to The Independent, Konaté said:

“My agent met with the club last week, but I don’t know what will come of it.
I can’t reveal what my agent told me, but we’ll see what happens.
I just want to make one thing clear: everything going around on social media is completely false. I didn’t even make any demands from the club.
They made an offer, and I responded — that’s all. The claims that I want to wait until the end of my contract are entirely made up.
Back in November, people were saying I was close to signing, and I thought, ‘They must know more than I do,’ because it wasn’t true — that’s why I was annoyed.”

Why Liverpool should keep Konaté

Konaté is undeniably a vital part of Liverpool’s squad. Beyond his defensive abilities, he’s seen as a leader in the dressing room. As the club aims to compete for top honours, retaining players of his calibre is essential.

Whether both sides can reach an agreement in the near future remains to be seen.
