Girona’s Interest in Oriol Romeu Waning

Girona have confirmed that Oriol Romeu, along with Bryan Gil, Arnaut Danjuma, and Arthur Melo, will depart following the expiration of their contracts on June 30. Romeu, however, remains under contract with Barcelona until June 2026 but is not part of new head coach Hansi Flick’s future plans.

While a potential return to Girona had been on the table, Mundo Deportivo reports that enthusiasm for the move has diminished. No formal proposal has been made, though further discussions with Romeu’s agent are anticipated as the transfer window progresses. Girona are reportedly reluctant to spend on a player with just a year left on his deal.

One possible resolution could involve a mutual agreement to end Romeu’s contract early, giving both parties flexibility while preserving Barcelona’s interests in any future deals. Despite the current uncertainty, Girona still value Romeu highly.

Both manager Míchel and sporting director Quique Cárcel continue to back the midfielder. With Girona’s pre-season starting on July 8—five days before Barcelona’s—there’s still a window to make a final call
