In a surprising public statement, former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has urged the club and newly appointed head coach Arne Slot to move quickly in securing the signing of Atalanta midfielder Ederson. Klopp stressed that any delay in pursuing the Brazilian international could prove costly.
“Liverpool and Arne Slot would be making a big mistake not to sign him,” Klopp reportedly said. “Ederson has been exceptional for Atalanta, and now that he’s expressed a desire to join Liverpool, the opportunity is clear. Honestly, aside from maybe one player, he outperforms every midfielder currently at the club. Now is not the time for hesitation—if they’re serious about winning trophies, they need to act decisively.”
The 25-year-old has played a key role in Atalanta’s recent success, including their Europa League victory. His standout performances have drawn interest from top clubs such as Manchester United and Manchester City, with Atalanta setting his price tag at approximately €60 million (£51 million).
Ederson has hinted at being open to a Premier League move, saying, “I enjoy playing in Italy, but I’m also intrigued by the Premier League. If Atalanta receive an offer, then it’s their call.”
Liverpool’s midfield has undergone major changes recently with the arrivals of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Ryan Gravenberch. Still, Klopp believes that bringing in Ederson could significantly boost the squad’s quality and depth.
