Former Liverpool, Bayern Munich, and Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcântara—who won two Champions League titles and celebrated two major trophies with Liverpool—has reacted to fans singing his chant during Liverpool’s recent title parade.
As the championship celebration made its way through the streets of Merseyside, especially along The Strand, supporters broke into a chant for Thiago. In response, the retired Spanish midfielder posted a clip of the moment on social media, simply writing “YNWA” with a heart emoji.
Although Thiago spent four years at Liverpool, injuries limited him to just 68 appearances. He retired in 2024 and has since moved into coaching, including a stint in a developmental role at Barcelona, while also taking some personal time away from football.
Following Liverpool’s 5-1 win over Tottenham that secured the Premier League title, Thiago congratulated the team via social media, resharing the club’s announcement and writing: “Congrats lads. YNWA.”
With assistant coach John Heitinga potentially heading to Ajax, new Liverpool boss Arne Slot may be seeking a new addition to his staff. Thiago’s extensive experience and fluency in Spanish, German, and English make him a promising candidate.
Last year, Thiago was spotted shadowing coach Hansi Flick at Barcelona, gaining valuable coaching insight. His time as a player across three of Europe’s top leagues further enhances his credentials.
Slot commented on Heitinga’s situation, saying: “If Ajax are smart, they’ll want John. But if John’s smart, he’ll stay here another year.”
Dirk Kuyt is another possible addition to Slot’s staff, according to Football Insider. A former Liverpool forward who played 285 matches under Rafa Benítez, Kuyt is currently managing Belgian second-division side Beerschot, whom he guided to promotion in the 2023/24 season. His previous coaching role at ADO Den Haag ended after less than five months, with the team languishing near the bottom of the Dutch second tier
