According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona has reached a preliminary agreement on a long-anticipated signing, finalizing the details of the contract between both parties.
Under new coach Hansi Flick, the club saw immediate success, claiming three domestic trophies in his debut season—La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup.
With next season in mind, Barcelona has begun reshaping the squad. The first step involved moving on from players who didn’t fit into Flick’s plans. Afterward, sporting director Deco and the German manager turned their attention to potential new recruits.
A major focus for both the club and fans has been upgrading the goalkeeping position—a long-standing concern. Fans have been so vocal about their dissatisfaction with current goalkeeper Ter Stegen that they even started a Twitter hashtag urging his departure.
Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona has now secured a verbal agreement with Espanyol’s Joan Garcia and his representatives for a summer move.
Garcia is expected to sign a five-year contract with Barcelona. Like his previous deal with Espanyol, the contract will include performance-based bonuses, particularly if he features for the Spanish national team.
The transfer will cost Barcelona €25 million—the amount of Garcia’s release clause. A final decision on his move is expected before next Monday
