Liverpool Fans Outraged by Chelsea Star’s Behavior During Guard of Honour
After clinching the 2024/25 Premier League title with a 5-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool arrived at Stamford Bridge to a Guard of Honour—an expected tradition. However, fans were quick to criticize one Chelsea player for appearing disengaged during the tribute.
Manager Arne Slot, in his debut season after taking over Jurgen Klopp’s squad, equaled Manchester United’s record of 20 English top-flight titles. Following custom, Chelsea—managed by Enzo Maresca and the first team to face Liverpool post-title win—were obliged to provide the Guard of Honour.
Despite the celebratory mood, Liverpool fans took issue with winger Noni Madueke, who seemed reluctant to participate in the ceremony. The reaction online was swift.
One fan, reacting to footage shared by The Athletic’s James Pearce, commented, “Madueke is so cringe—trying too hard to act tough.” Another added, “That might be the laziest clapping I’ve ever seen.”
A third supporter remarked, “Madueke clearly wasn’t enjoying that moment,” while a fourth criticized him for lacking respect, writing: “He wasn’t clapping at all—disrespectful.”
Chelsea, who have previously won the Premier League five times (03/04, 04/05, 08/09, 13/14, and 15/16), had also honored Liverpool with a Guard of Honour back in 2020, when the Reds were crowned champions
