BREAKING: Athletic Bilbao Star Hails Bruno Fernandes After Europa League Display

Following Manchester United’s emphatic 3-0 win over Athletic Bilbao in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final at San Mamés, praise came from an unlikely source—a Bilbao player himself. Speaking anonymously after the match, the player couldn’t hide his admiration for United’s captain, Bruno Fernandes, who played a key role in dismantling the Spanish side.

“He completely took control of the game,” the player admitted. “After ten minutes, I knew we were done. He was unstoppable. What he did out there was next level. Honestly, I’d leave Bilbao tomorrow if it meant playing alongside him at Manchester United. There aren’t many players like him—I’d rather play with him than against him.”

Fernandes was central to United’s dominance. After Casemiro opened the scoring in the 30th minute, Fernandes converted a penalty following Dani Vivian’s red card for a foul on Rasmus Højlund. He then added a third before the break with a smart finish assisted by Manuel Ugarte. His performance not only solidified United’s advantage but also set a new record for goals and goal contributions in Europa League knockout rounds.

Manager Ruben Amorim praised Fernandes, saying, “When we need a spark, he delivers. He leads, scores, and drives the team forward. He’s the ideal captain, and we must support him in winning trophies.”

Manchester United remain the only unbeaten side in European competitions this season and are strong contenders to reach the Europa League final, set to be played at San Mamés.

Fans are already celebrating Fernandes’ brilliance, with one saying, “He was unreal today—we’re partying at Old Trafford!”

The second leg will be held on May 8 at Old Trafford, where United aim to seal their spot in the final and continue their European campaign.
