Liverpool have agreed to release Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid ahead of the Club World Cup for a fee of £10 million.
Jamie Carragher, the former Liverpool defender, had previously suggested that a £5–10 million fee would be reasonable if Trent were to leave early for Madrid. When Carragher made that statement, Gary Neville and Micah Richards burst out laughing.
In a past discussion, Neville had asked, “Would you take £1 million for him to leave for the Club World Cup?” Carragher replied, “I’d want more than that,” adding that £5–10 million would be acceptable.
Richards joked, “Good job he’s not an agent,” while Carragher defended his reasoning: “Have you seen how much money there is to win it? If Madrid could earn £100 million and Trent’s crucial in helping them — especially since they don’t have a proper right-back — then £10 million makes sense.”
Neville quipped, “Well, the price is set, Real Madrid,” as the panel laughed it off.
It turns out Liverpool’s sporting director Richard Hughes may have taken note — the Reds ultimately received exactly £10 million for Trent’s early release
