Manchester United have reportedly finalized the medical for a Premier League star as new manager Ruben Amorim prepares for his first signing of the summer transfer window. Despite a disappointing season that saw United finish 15th in the Premier League, the club is now aiming for a top-four finish next year.
Amorim, who guided the team to the Europa League final (ultimately losing 1-0 to Tottenham in Bilbao), is eager to rebuild the squad. One of his key targets is Matheus Cunha, whom he plans to use as one of two attacking midfielders. According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, all parties—United, Wolves, and Cunha—have reached a full agreement, with Romano giving his trademark “Here we go” confirmation.
United aren’t stopping there. According to talkSPORT, the club has also held discussions with Brentford over a potential move for Bryan Mbeumo. Brentford reportedly value the Cameroon international at £50 million. Mbeumo, primarily used as a right-winger this season, scored 20 goals and provided eight assists in 38 Premier League matches. He has even drawn comparisons to Mohamed Salah, with pundit Jason Cundy referring to him as “a mini-Salah.”
TEAMtalk has confirmed United’s interest in Mbeumo, with their transfer insider Fraser Fletcher reporting on May 7 that both United and Newcastle United are pursuing the player. Sources say Mbeumo is intrigued by the chance to join Old Trafford, attracted by the club’s global stature and Amorim’s offensive tactics. However, Newcastle currently lead the race, as they are set to play in the Champions League next season, unlike United.
Brentford boss Thomas Frank has admitted that Mbeumo could be sold if the right offer arrives. Speaking to talkSPORT, Frank said:
“There should be interest in him. He’s at his peak and has scored 20 goals. I’d love to keep him, but we’re a selling club if the price is right.”
Meanwhile, United had identified Liam Delap as their top striker target, but their failure to qualify for the Champions League may cost them that signing too. Reports also suggest United are monitoring Viktor Gyokeres, a player Amorim worked with at Sporting CP and hopes to reunite with at Old Trafford
