New Bayer Leverkusen head coach Erik ten Hag has expressed his frustration after learning that star midfielder Florian Wirtz is likely to join Liverpool this summer. Ten Hag, who recently took charge following Xabi Alonso’s departure to Real Madrid, revealed that Wirtz informed him directly about his intention to move to the Premier League.
The Dutch manager didn’t hide his displeasure, saying, “He told me yesterday that he’s leaving for a Premier League team. I’m very disappointed and am thinking about reporting the situation to FIFA for misconduct.” This suggests he believes Liverpool may have breached transfer rules in their approach.
Liverpool have reportedly offered £109 million for the 22-year-old playmaker, though Leverkusen are holding out for £126 million—a figure that would surpass Chelsea’s record-breaking £115 million deal for Moises Caicedo.
