Gary Neville Identifies Four Manchester United Players Who Must Be Sold Immediately

Gary Neville has named four players at Manchester United who should be sold this summer as the club prepares for another rebuilding phase—a process that has become all too familiar in recent years. The 2024/25 season was particularly disappointing, with performances ranging from forgettable to unacceptable.
United ended their Premier League campaign at their lowest point since the 1973/74 relegation season and failed to redeem themselves in Europe, losing 1-0 to Tottenham in the Europa League final. This means they will miss out on European competition for the first time since the difficult David Moyes era over a decade ago.
Significant changes are clearly needed at Old Trafford. However, with the club under the INEOS-led ownership of Sir Jim Ratcliffe enforcing strict cost-cutting and burdened by over £1 billion in Glazer-era debt, selling players is a necessity before buying new ones. Neville has already identified four players likely to be sold first.
The club has made quick moves in the transfer market, signing Matheus Cunha from Wolves for £62.5 million and pursuing Bryan Mbeumo for about £50 million. This new attacking pair does not bode well for Marcus Rashford, who fell out of favor with manager Ruben Amorim and was loaned to Aston Villa in January. Rashford now appears surplus to requirements. Neville suggested that both Rashford and the club would benefit from parting ways, marking the end of an era for a homegrown talent who scored 138 goals in 426 appearances.
Another player likely to leave is Antony, who joined United in 2022 for £86 million from Ajax but failed to make a significant impact, scoring only 12 goals and providing five assists in 96 games. His struggles worsened under Amorim, but a successful loan spell at Real Betis demonstrated he fits better in the Spanish style of play. A permanent move away seems very probable.
Jadon Sancho also faces a departure after a loan spell at Chelsea. Once a promising talent, Sancho’s relationship with the club deteriorated, and he has publicly criticized United during his time away. Neville expressed concerns about Chelsea’s intentions to keep him and emphasized that both Sancho and United should agree to part ways.
Finally, Alejandro Garnacho, 20, valued at around £37 million, may be on his way to Chelsea, which he reportedly prefers. His situation worsened after being benched for the Europa League final, leading to tensions with Amorim and his agent brother. Reports say Amorim told Garnacho to start looking for a new club during a training session.
