Journalist James Pearce has shared fresh details about Liverpool’s pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz.
The German international has been a standout performer in recent seasons, becoming one of football’s brightest young prospects.
Pearce commended Liverpool for doing an “excellent job” convincing Wirtz of their vision, especially given competition from Bayern Munich.
Speaking on The Athletic’s “Walk On” podcast, Pearce addressed the transfer saga and the speculation that a recent Liverpool bid for Wirtz was turned down.

“David Ornstein reported last week that a second offer of £109 million was made. While it hasn’t been accepted yet, negotiations are ongoing. It seems both sides expect to reach a compromise,” Pearce stated.
“What really helped Liverpool is Wirtz expressing a strong desire to join them. Many thought he’d be heading to Bayern Munich.
“When we initially reported Liverpool’s interest, sources indicated they wanted to be first in line if Wirtz decided to leave Germany. Liverpool have clearly done a fantastic job presenting their case.”
