Liverpool supporters have taken to social media after Florian Wirtz gave a subtle but telling reaction when asked about a possible move to Anfield.
Following the signing of Jeremie Frimpong, Liverpool are reportedly working on further reinforcements. Wirtz and Milos Kerkez are now viewed as prime targets to strengthen new manager Arne Slot’s squad.
Recent reports suggest the 22-year-old German has decided on Liverpool as his next club, turning down interest from both Manchester City and Bayern Munich.
Wirtz featured for Germany in their UEFA Nations League semi-final against Portugal on Wednesday night, opening the scoring with a header shortly after halftime. However, Portugal came back with goals from Francisco Conceição and Cristiano Ronaldo to book their place in the final.
After the game, while walking through the media area, Wirtz was asked, “Excited for Liverpool, Florian?” He didn’t respond verbally, but fans quickly noticed what appeared to be a slight nod—interpreting it as a subtle confirmation of the transfer rumours.
One fan wrote, “That little nod says it all,” while another added, “Just what we needed to ease the nerves.” A third post read: “He didn’t have to react—but he did. Get him signed!”
Earlier that day, Bayern Munich and Germany captain Joshua Kimmich was questioned about Wirtz’s future and hinted that Liverpool was the player’s chosen destination. “He has his reasons. I hope it works out for him. Naturally, I’d have preferred he joined Bayern,” Kimmich stated.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that Wirtz has already informed Bayer Leverkusen of his wish to join Liverpool, with personal terms agreed. He added that negotiations between the clubs are ongoing, and Liverpool are confident of sealing the deal.
