Liverpool in Talks Over £42m Deal for Wirtz’s Germany Teammate
Liverpool have initiated discussions over a potential transfer for a fellow German international of Florian Wirtz, with reports suggesting that Wirtz’s own move to Anfield is nearly finalized.
According to CaughtOffside, the Reds have shown genuine interest in Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade, who recently made his senior debut for Germany in a UEFA Nations League match where Wirtz also found the net.
Woltemade, who is drawing attention from top European clubs including Arsenal, Bayern Munich, and Napoli, is valued at around €50 million (£42.1m). Liverpool are said to be among the clubs that have already started talks regarding a summer move.
A Promising Alternative?
At 6’6″, the Stuttgart forward has had a breakthrough season, helping his club to a DFB-Pokal win and scoring 17 goals in 33 matches across all competitions. His performances also earned praise after a hat-trick for Germany’s U21 team against Spain.
Statistically, Woltemade holds his own against more established names like Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike. He has a higher shot accuracy rate (50%) and leads in shot-creating actions per 90 minutes, making him a standout performer analytically.
With Darwin Núñez potentially on his way out, as reported by The Athletic’s James Pearce, Liverpool may need a replacement. Woltemade, though less high-profile, could be a cost-effective solution with significant upside.
If Wirtz does complete his expected move, his existing chemistry with Woltemade from the national setup could benefit Liverpool, giving the club added insight into the striker’s potential fit at Anfield.
