Liverpool Joins the Race to Sign Unexpected Former Man Utd Target Who Could Be This Summer’s Best Bargain
Liverpool have reportedly entered the competition to sign a player once pursued by Manchester United, currently available at a surprisingly low transfer fee.
Just days after celebrating their 20th league title with a Premier League trophy parade, Liverpool confirmed their first signing of what is expected to be a busy transfer window: Dutch right-back Jeremie Frimpong.
But new manager Arne Slot isn’t done yet. The club has been linked with other notable names, such as Florian Wirtz, Frimpong’s former teammate at Bayer Leverkusen, and Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth.
Now, Liverpool are reportedly interested in Bayern Munich’s centre-back Kim Min-jae, a player previously targeted by Manchester United, who could turn out to be one of the summer’s best value deals.
CaughtOffside reports that Liverpool are keen on strengthening their defense with Kim Min-jae. With contract negotiations with Ibrahima Konaté apparently stalled and Joe Gomez and Jarell Quansah possibly leaving, Liverpool want to add a central defender.
Initially, Liverpool’s sporting director Richard Hughes aimed to sign Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth, but the young defender chose to join Real Madrid instead.
Kim Min-jae has become a strong alternative. The South Korean defender’s future at Bayern looks uncertain, especially with Jonathan Tah’s arrival expected.
Kim joined Bayern from Napoli in 2023 for around €50 million (£42.1m) and has made 79 appearances since. However, Bayern may now be willing to sell him for €30–35 million (£25.3–29.5m), a significant discount from his original price.
Given his previous links to Premier League clubs like Manchester United and Tottenham, Kim might be open to a move to Liverpool.
This is not the first time Liverpool have been linked with Kim—rumors first surfaced during Virgil van Dijk’s long-term injury in early 2023.
If Bayern offer him at a reduced price, Liverpool will face tough competition from other top clubs such as Chelsea, Newcastle United, Paris Saint-Germain, and AC Milan.
