Liverpool Enters Race for Surprising Ex-Man United Target, Could Be Summer’s Best Bargain
Liverpool is reportedly targeting a player once pursued by Manchester United, now available at a notably reduced fee, potentially making him one of the best value signings this summer.
Fresh off celebrating their 20th league title, Liverpool confirmed the signing of Dutch right-back Jeremie Frimpong, marking the beginning of what looks to be a busy transfer period under new manager Arne Slot.
Alongside Frimpong, the club has shown interest in Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz and Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez. Now, Bayern Munich’s centre-back Kim Min-jae has emerged as a key defensive target for the Reds.
According to CaughtOffside, Liverpool is looking to strengthen its backline due to uncertainty surrounding Ibrahima Konaté’s contract talks and potential departures of Joe Gomez and Jarell Quansah.
Initially, sporting director Richard Hughes had his eyes on Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen, but the young talent opted for Real Madrid instead. As a result, Kim Min-jae is being considered a strong alternative.
The South Korean defender, who moved from Napoli to Bayern in 2023 for €50 million, could now be available for €30–35 million, significantly less than his original fee, due to Bayern’s expected signing of Jonathan Tah.
Kim, who has already been linked to Premier League sides like Manchester United and Tottenham in the past, may now be open to a switch to Liverpool. This isn’t the first time the Reds have been associated with him—rumors previously surfaced during Virgil van Dijk’s long injury spell in early 2023.
If Bayern lowers the asking price, Liverpool could face stiff competition from other top clubs including Chelsea, PSG, Newcastle United, and AC Milan.
