Despite Liverpool’s intent to hold onto Diaz following his strong season, Barcelona views that stance as understandable but potentially flexible. They believe Liverpool might be open to negotiations later in the transfer window as the club looks to recover funds after recent big spending.
Liverpool has already invested £35 million in Jeremie Frimpong and is reportedly aiming to break the British transfer record with an offer for Florian Wirtz, Frimpong’s former teammate at Bayer Leverkusen. Meanwhile, Diaz has confirmed he’s been speaking with other clubs.
In a press conference with the Colombian national team, Diaz said:
“We’re in discussions with Liverpool because we’re talking to clubs—it’s normal during the transfer window. We’re working on what’s best for us.”
He continued:
“We’re in contact with several clubs, and that’s standard. We’re evaluating the best path forward. I’m happy at Liverpool and always have been. If they offer me a good renewal or I stay another two years, I’ll be content. The decision is now theirs.”
Diaz’s father has also acknowledged that it would be a dream come true for his son to join Barcelona.
“Yes, Luis is a Barcelona fan, and playing for them would be a dream,” he said. “But we’re grateful to both Porto and Liverpool for how they welcomed him. He’s a humble, hardworking, and disciplined player. If an opportunity to join Barcelona arises, he would gladly accept, as it’s one of the world’s top clubs.”
