Hugo Ekitike’s Move to Liverpool Takes a Turn as Key Decision Made Ahead of Transfer Deadline

Liverpool FC remains in contention to sign Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike, as a potential move to Chelsea appears to have hit a snag.

The Reds have received a significant boost in their pursuit of Ekitike, with Chelsea seemingly pulling back from the race. According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Chelsea has not finalized an agreement with Frankfurt and will not complete the transfer before the Club World Cup deadline. This delay could open the door for Liverpool to make their move.

Although Chelsea had been leading the chase, no official bid was submitted. Clubs hoping to register players for the upcoming tournament in the United States have until 7 PM today to finalize any deals.

The transfer window will briefly close after today’s deadline, reopening on June 16 and staying open until 7 PM on September 1. Chelsea may return for Ekitike later in the window, but Liverpool now has a clear opportunity to act swiftly.

Frankfurt is reportedly holding out for a €100 million (£84 million) fee for the French striker
