Laporta Concerned About Potential Dressing Room Issues from Nico Williams–Lamine Yamal Friendship

Barcelona remain interested in signing Nico Williams for the 2025 summer transfer window, but president Joan Laporta reportedly has reservations—not about the player’s skills or fit within Hansi Flick’s tactical setup, but due to concerns off the field.

As reported by journalist Santi Ovalle on Carrusel Deportivo, Laporta believes in Nico’s quality and how well he would integrate into the team. However, his close relationship with Lamine Yamal has raised red flags.

“Nico and Lamine are very close,” Ovalle noted, adding that Laporta fears their friendship could lead to cliques forming in the dressing room—an issue that has plagued Barcelona in the past during the so-called “Club de Amigos” era, when internal divisions undermined team unity.

With the club entering a new chapter under Flick, Laporta is said to be prioritizing squad harmony and professionalism, seeking to avoid any internal rifts that could affect performance.

Looking further ahead, Barcelona are also eyeing talent for 2026. According to Fabrizio Romano, the club is monitoring Cardoso Varela, a promising youngster who recently extended his contract with Dinamo Zagreb until 2030, but remains on Barça’s long-term watchlist
