Liverpool is reportedly exploring a high-profile swap deal to acquire Victor Osimhen, widely regarded as one of the world’s top strikers, according to TEAMtalk sources.
Despite comfortably winning the Premier League last season, the Reds are actively reinforcing their squad this summer. Under new manager Arne Slot, Liverpool has already secured Netherlands right wing-back Jeremie Frimpong and reached a club-record agreement for German playmaker Florian Wirtz. Additionally, Hungarian left-back Milos Kerkez is expected to arrive from Bournemouth.
Now, Liverpool is shifting its focus to strengthening its attack. TEAMtalk reports that the club has opened talks for Osimhen, who has returned to Napoli following a loan spell at Galatasaray, where he scored 37 goals and assisted eight times in 41 matches, helping the club secure both the Turkish Super Lig and Cup.
Praised by Nigeria manager Eric Chelle as “the best striker in the world,” Osimhen has attracted attention from top European clubs, including Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Real Madrid. Liverpool has now joined that race and is reportedly willing to offer Darwin Nunez and Federico Chiesa in exchange.
Although Osimhen isn’t Slot’s top target, he’s now under serious consideration. Liverpool has initiated contact with Napoli and is exploring a variety of options, including a potential player swap.
Discussions—facilitated by intermediaries—have involved Napoli’s interest in Nunez and Chiesa. Nunez, signed for £64 million in 2022, and Chiesa, who joined from Juventus for £10 million but has struggled with injuries, are both admired by Napoli boss Antonio Conte.
It was during these talks that Osimhen’s name surfaced as a possible part of the negotiation.
Simultaneously, Liverpool has been in contact with Osimhen’s camp. The striker is open to joining a Champions League club, and Liverpool’s participation in the competition is a key factor.
The main stumbling block could be his wage demands. However, if Liverpool offloads Nunez and Chiesa, it could free up about £15 million annually—money that might be used to meet Osimhen’s salary expectations.
The deal remains in its early and complex stages. Osimhen, who has a £63 million release clause, is in no rush and may begin pre-season with Napoli before making a final decision
