Liverpool goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros is expected to undergo a medical today before finalizing a season-long loan move to Ajax, with no option to buy.
Since arriving at Liverpool as a teenager in 2017, Jaros has already spent time on loan at four different clubs across three countries. Now, he’s set for his fifth loan spell, this time in the Netherlands.
Dutch outlet De Telegraaf reported on Saturday that Ajax and Liverpool had reached an agreement for Jaros’s loan. Ajax’s manager, Johnny Heitinga, is reportedly eager to reunite with the 23-year-old, following earlier interest in the week.
Liverpool approved the move, seeing value in Jaros gaining experience with a Champions League side that shares a similar tactical philosophy under new head coach Heitinga, who previously worked with Arne Slot.
Journalist Mike Verweij confirmed via social media on Monday night that Jaros will undergo a medical today before completing the transfer.
Why the Ajax Move Makes Sense for Liverpool and Jaros
Jaros was retained as Liverpool’s third-choice goalkeeper last season and was called into action during a crucial 1-0 win at Crystal Palace in October, stepping in due to injuries to first-choice keeper Alisson.
Backup goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, who missed that match through illness, praised Jaros as “brilliant” during pre-season. The Czech international impressed during his competitive debut.
However, with the summer arrivals of Giorgi Mamardashvili and Armin Pecsi, opportunities for game time at Liverpool will be even more limited. The loan to Ajax offers Jaros the chance to play consistently at a high level, particularly with the Dutch giants competing in the Champions League and pushing for domestic titles.
