Barcelona Eager to Have Nico Williams for Pre-Season with Hansi Flick – Reports
According to journalist Víctor Navarro, FC Barcelona are closing in on a deal to sign Athletic Club winger Nico Williams and hope to finalize it in the next two to three weeks by activating his release clause.
The club reportedly wants Nico available for pre-season training under new manager Hansi Flick, which kicks off on July 13. Earlier this month, Barcelona’s sporting director Deco held a significant meeting with the player’s agent, and now the transfer is believed to be in its final stages. Navarro claims the club is 90–95% confident the move will be completed.
The 22-year-old is expected to sign a six-year deal, similar to Joan García’s. However, in order to officially register him, Barcelona need to reduce their wage bill. To do this, they are looking to offload players like Ansu Fati, Oriol Romeu, and possibly even goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen.
Nico has reportedly turned down an offer from Real Madrid, showing his clear preference for joining Barcelona.
