Liverpool midfielder Wataru Endo has made his intentions clear regarding his future at Anfield, confirming he plans to stay with the club despite limited playing time under new manager Arne Slot.
Speaking to Japanese media shortly after the conclusion of the 2024/25 Premier League season, the 32-year-old reiterated that he won’t give up his opportunity at Liverpool. With two years still left on his contract, Endo emphasized that it’s ultimately his decision to remain, regardless of any potential conversations with the club.
During a fan Q\&A in his hometown of Kanagawa, Endo said, “I already said I’m staying. If the club tells me to leave… no, I’m still staying. I have a contract. At the end of the day, it’s my choice. So yes, I’m staying for now.”
Though he started only one league game under Slot last season, Endo has embraced his role as a late-game substitute—commonly referred to as a ‘closer.’ Reflecting on the campaign, he noted, “It was a good year. I didn’t play much at Liverpool, but we won the Premier League and I qualified for the World Cup. It was a successful season that sets up the next one.”
Endo went on to say that he earned his role through hard work and hopes to prove he can contribute both as a substitute and a starter in the future.
