Florian Wirtz Set for Landmark Move to Liverpool

Liverpool are on the verge of completing a blockbuster transfer, as Florian Wirtz prepares to undergo his medical later this week following his return from vacation, per WerkselfXtra (via Stephan von Nocks for Kicker).

The highly rated German midfielder has long been linked with a switch to Anfield, and the latest updates indicate that a formal announcement is just around the corner.

The deal is expected to be worth up to €150 million, with a base fee of €130 million and additional bonuses based on performance. These include both achievable targets—like appearances and Champions League qualification—and more ambitious ones, such as winning the Champions League.

Despite more lucrative offers from Bayern Munich, Wirtz has opted to join Liverpool, emphasizing the club’s strong intent as they rebuild for the 2025/26 campaign.

Wirtz, 22, had a stellar season with Bayer Leverkusen in 2024/25, contributing 16 goals and 15 assists across all competitions. His arrival is expected to bring flair and creativity to Liverpool’s midfield.

This transfer will make Wirtz the most expensive signing in the club’s history, surpassing the fees for Virgil van Dijk and Darwin Núñez.

With Trent Alexander-Arnold having left the club and tactical adjustments underway, Wirtz is seen as a pivotal piece in Arne Slot’s vision for the team. Liverpool had an earlier bid rejected, but their persistence has finally paid off.

Wirtz’s arrival follows that of Jeremie Frimpong from Leverkusen, reuniting the pair at Anfield and marking a bold new era for the Reds.

This signing could be the defining moment of the summer and a significant milestone in Liverpool’s transformation
