Alexander Isak Explains Why He Chose Liverpool Over European Powerhouses

Liverpool’s dynamic summer transfer activity continues to make waves, as Swedish striker Alexander Isak has officially confirmed his decision to join the reigning Premier League champions. The club beat out serious competition from Arsenal and Barcelona to secure the highly sought-after forward.

Following the high-profile arrivals of Florian Wirtz (£127 million from Bayer Leverkusen) and Jeremie Frimpong, Liverpool has now landed one of Europe’s top attacking talents. Speaking to Sky Sports, Isak explained:

“It wasn’t a tough decision. Liverpool’s ambition, their style of play, and the opportunity to work under Arne Slot made it an easy choice. I want to win trophies, and this is the club where I can do that.”

Isak is coming off a stellar season at Newcastle United, where he scored 26 goals and provided 6 assists in 42 matches. His performance made him one of the most in-demand strikers in Europe, but Liverpool’s persistence — and their readiness to spend over £150 million — ultimately convinced both Newcastle and the player.

Sources close to the deal say Liverpool sees Isak as the final piece of their reimagined attack, possibly signaling the exit of Darwin Núñez, who is reportedly linked with a move to Saudi Arabia. In addition, Luis Díaz, Harvey Elliott, and Diogo Jota could also be on the way out as the club reshapes its front line under Slot’s leadership.

Isak also shared his excitement about the move:

“Playing at Anfield has always been a dream. I’ve seen the fans and the atmosphere. I imagined myself there — and now it’s real. I’m excited to get started.”

Meanwhile, Milos Kerkez is also expected to join from Bournemouth, potentially pushing Liverpool’s summer spending past £300 million, marking a bold new chapter under Arne Slot.
