Liverpool are planning a major transfer move for a Premier League standout after sanctioning the exit of one of their own players, according to recent reports.
The Reds have already bolstered their squad this summer by activating a £35 million release clause to bring in right-back Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen.
They have also agreed to a £100 million deal for his Leverkusen teammate Florian Wirtz and are in ongoing negotiations to land Bournemouth’s £45 million-rated left-back Milos Kerkez.
Sky Sports reports that Liverpool’s next focus is on an outgoing transfer, with centre-back Jarell Quansah in advanced discussions to join Leverkusen. Liverpool are seeking up to £40 million for Quansah, which would be a record signing for the German side. A deal worth £30 million plus £5.5 million in potential add-ons is reportedly nearing completion.
New Leverkusen boss Erik ten Hag, who knows Quansah from his time at Manchester United, is eager to make him his second signing of the summer, following the arrival of goalkeeper Mark Flekken from Brentford.
Quansah fell out of favour under former manager Arne Slot last season, featuring in just 13 Premier League matches. Despite starting the season opener against Ipswich, he was substituted at half-time and didn’t appear again in league play until December. Injuries saw him occasionally fill in at right-back, mostly in domestic cup competitions.
Currently representing England in the U21 European Championship, Quansah has played every minute of their three group stage games.
According to The Telegraph, if Quansah’s departure goes through as expected, Liverpool will respond with a substantial bid for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi.
