Romano confirms Liverpool have added Guehi to their center-back shortlist as Quansah nears exit
Liverpool are actively looking for replacements for Jarell Quansah, with Fabrizio Romano confirming that England defender Marc Guehi is firmly on their list this summer.
The Crystal Palace captain was instrumental in their FA Cup victory and missed only four league games throughout the season. Now, Liverpool are seriously considering him while negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen regarding Quansah continue.
On his YouTube channel, Romano said: “One player Liverpool is keeping an eye on—and I can confirm recent English reports—is Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace. He’s on Liverpool’s shortlist as a potential replacement for Jarell Quansah this summer. The club’s sporting director, Richard Hughes, values him highly.”
The 24-year-old, born in Ivory Coast but representing England internationally, captained Palace in 44 matches last season and was a key figure in their major fixtures, including the FA Cup final at Wembley.
Guehi has also attracted interest from Chelsea and Newcastle, both of whom have scouted him thoroughly, but Romano highlighted that Liverpool are now among the clubs pursuing him for a possible transfer this summer.

This potential signing is part of a broader defensive restructuring under manager Arne Slot, with Quansah expected to move to Leverkusen. His departure would come alongside confirmed exits of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Caoimhin Kelleher as Liverpool reshape their squad ahead of the new season.
Liverpool have already secured deals for Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen, and discussions for a third transfer between the clubs are underway.
Guehi brings leadership, reliability, and experience — qualities that Liverpool’s defense would benefit from if Quansah leaves.
If Liverpool succeed in signing Guehi, it would reflect the shrewd recruitment strategy of sporting director Richard Hughes, who values Guehi’s comprehensive skills and mindset.
Liverpool are also monitoring Nathan Collins, keeping multiple options open, but Guehi is currently the leading candidate on their shortlist.
