Fabrizio Romano Shares Update on Liverpool’s Pursuit of Hugo Ekitike

Fabrizio Romano has delivered a noteworthy update for Liverpool fans regarding their interest in Hugo Ekitike.

Following Florian Plettenberg’s report that Liverpool, Manchester United, and Chelsea are all targeting the Eintracht Frankfurt striker, Romano has added that the 22-year-old is still evaluating his options and hasn’t yet chosen between the clubs.

In a recent video on his YouTube channel, Romano explained that Darwin Núñez is expected to leave Liverpool this summer, and the club’s ownership (FSG) has already started working on potential replacements. He revealed that Liverpool had initial talks with Ekitike’s representatives at the end of May and remain in frequent contact with those close to the player.

Romano emphasized:

“With Darwin leaving, Ekitike is a concrete target for Liverpool. They’ve already spoken with his agents and are keeping in touch, so he’s definitely on their list.”

Given Manchester United’s reported formal approach to Ekitike’s camp, it’s significant that Liverpool acted early and haven’t backed off.

If Núñez is sold, Liverpool will need to reinforce their attacking line, especially with Diogo Jota’s injury record making him unreliable over a full season. Although some suggest Ekitike isn’t quite at the elite level of Alexander Isak, he would likely be a more cost-effective option—particularly important as the Reds have already committed £116 million to sign Florian Wirtz.

Liverpool’s sustained contact with Ekitike’s representatives suggests they are preparing for Núñez’s departure and want to move quickly if the opportunity arises.

With rival clubs circling, Liverpool must stay aggressive in their pursuit of the French forward
