New Liverpool signing Florian Wirtz has shared his delight at reuniting with former Bayer Leverkusen teammate Jeremie Frimpong at Anfield. Wirtz praised the Dutch full-back not only for his footballing talents but also for the positive influence he had on him off the pitch.
“He’s an amazing footballer and an even better guy — hilarious, full of energy in the locker room, and a real weapon on the field. His attacking and defensive skills are top-notch. He made the move to Liverpool first and definitely encouraged me to join him,” Wirtz said.
The German midfielder described how close the two were during their time in Germany.
“At Leverkusen, our lockers were next to each other. We always spoke in English, and he really pushed me to get better at it and speak more confidently. I owe a lot to him for that.”
Now, the duo are set to link up again — this time on a bigger stage.
“It means a lot to be playing with him again, especially at a club like Liverpool. I can’t wait to get started,” Wirtz added.
